BJP MLA storms police station over complaints

Despite this being the fourth case against Vinod Mehta, Narendra Mehta, continued to term the allegations as baseless and fabricated.

Mumbai: Peeved over repeated cases being filed against his kin, including his younger brother, BJP legislator Narendra Mehta, along with his sister-in-law and mayor Dimple Mehta, allegedly stormed into the Mira Road police station Thursday night.

A FIR under relevant sections of the Environment Protection Act was registered on Wednesday against eight people, including Narendra Mehta’s younger brother and husband of Dimple Mehta - Vinod Mehta, for allegedly reclaiming wetlands to construct an ultra-luxurious club for the rich in the Kanakia area of Mira Road.

Despite this being the fourth case against Vinod Mehta, Narendra Mehta, continued to term the allegations as baseless and fabricated. “Instead of investigating the authenticity of the complaints, so that the cases reach their logical conclusion, the police, on the instance of revenue officials, has been blindly registering FIRs. My stand is clear; either arrest my brother if he is guilty or book the complainants for filing false complaints,” he said.

However, social activist and former corporator Rohit Suvarna said, “This is nothing but a tactic to exert political pressure on the administration. The police should book the power-drunk MLA on charges of obstructing government servants from discharging their duties.”

Meanwhile, revenue officials put the ball in the police’s court, saying that they had done their part and it was up to the police to take appropriate action against the offenders.
