Mumbai: With the failure of the “Shalarth” software since January 2018, online disbursement of salaries of teachers and non-teaching staff of aided schools and those run by local bodies across the state has been delayed. The school education department has not been able to resolve the issue in the last five months, and has now decided to disburse the salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff offline till July 2018.

Software problems have been going on for the past five months and the government has been unable to resolve them despite various efforts. As a result, thousands of teachers and non-teachers have not received their salaries on time.

With technical difficulties having plagued the farmers’ loan waiver scheme, school scholarships, and tribal and social welfare departments since last year, the failure of the Shalarth software is but one more addition to this list.

Sources said that while chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is very keen on digital Maharashtra and wants the latest technology to be used in government administration, IT-related issues have been creating more and more hurdles in various departments.

The unions, MLA Niranjan Davkhare and others had raised this issue before the government and the authorities. The work of updating the system has been going on since a long time and will be complete by July. Till such time, the government will disburse salaries offline, said officers of the school education department.
