Bridge shut down 15 days after cr notice

In July, the traffic police had issued a circular stating that only light motor vehicles would be allowed on the bridge.

Mumbai: A day after this paper reported that the Patripul bridge in Kalyan is still used by light vehicles despite being found unsafe for pedestrians and vehicular movements, the Thane city traffic police on Saturday announced that the bridge will be shut down for all types of the vehicles.

According to the Thane district information office, the city traffic department assistant police commissioner, Babaji Awahad, issued a circular stating that movement of all types of vehicles on Patripul has been stopped.

Vehicles and pedestrians, especially from Kolsewadi, Suchaknaka, Govind-wadi bypass and Durgadi who use Patripul, will be diverted to the new Patripul. According to a DIO officer, heavy vehicles will be allowed on new Patripul between 11pm to 5 pm.

A fortnite ago, CR and MSRDC had asked the traffic police to close down Patripul for all kinds of the traffic due to safety reasons. In July, the traffic police had issued a circular stating that only light motor vehicles would be allowed on the bridge.

“It won’t give any special relief to us commuters as Tisai Bridge is too narrow to handle so many vehicles. Moreover, because it is a two-way bridge, the traffic congestion is way too much especially during the peak hours,” said Jignesh Upadhya, a commuter who uses the bridge to travel to his workplace at Mahape, Vashi.
