Book Kadam, demands NCP women's wing chief
Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) women’s wing chief, Chitra Wagh, held a meeting with the Maharashtra State Commission for Women and demanded lodging of a FIR against BJP MLA Ram Kadam for his controversial remarks about kidnapping girls so that boys could marry them. Ms Wagh said that the women’s commission should not be biased while dealing with this sensitive issue and should take action against Mr Kadam.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kadam had made remarks during the dahi handi festival that he would kidnap girls whom boys wanted to marry. Later, he was asked to submit an explanation to state women’s commission. In his clarification, Mr Kadam apologised and assured that it wouldn’t happen again.
On Tuesday, Ms Wagh with her party colleagues reached the State Women’s Commission office, and submitted a memorandum about strict action against Mr Kadam. “He must be booked under IPC 363, 116. The women’s commission should take a strong stand against Mr Kadam,” she demanded.
“The incidents of kidnapping of women and other harassment are increasing in society. We need to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for it. The example should be set with Mr Kadam,” Ms Wagh said.
