Cops on bandobast duty thrashed in 3 incidents

In the first incident, an assistant police commissioner and constable were manhandled by a drunk man and his friend.

Mumbai: Ganesh immersion processions in Mumbai and the surrounding areas on Monday were marred by three separate incidents of people beating up policemen posted on bandobast duty.

In the first incident, an assistant police commissioner and constable were manhandled by a drunk man and his friend. ACP Vinay Kulkarni of the crime branch was on bandobast duty at J.P. Road, Versova, and was asking vehicles to move forward. Amarendra Bhosle, a Yari road resident, who was drunk and abusive, refused to do so. When he was put inside a police van, his friend shoved the ACP and dragged Bhosle out. The duo tried to run but were caught by the cops and booked.

In another incident, two men allegedly beat up some police personnel and a tempo driver during a Ganesh immersion ritual in Dombivali. Following a complaint about the accused thrashing people, police rushed to the site and saw two men beating a tempo driver and manhandling some women. The duo allegedly beat up a inspector, a sub-inspector and some constables and fled the scene. A search is on for the duo.

Police inspector Raghunath Kadam along with other constables posted on duty at Lele Wadi in Andheri (east), were assaulted by a mob.
