Mumbai: A 25-year-old techie from Mira Road was duped of Rs 60,000 by online fraudsters under the pretext of getting him placed in a reputed multinational company.

According to the police, the complainant who is currently employed with a Mumbai-based networking firm, was searching web-based portals for better job opportunities.

In his complaint, the techie stated that after going through a reputed online job portal, he received a call from a person, who identified himself as the representative of the web portal and informed about his selection for a highly paid job in a leading IT company. After few questions, the caller asked the complainant to pay registration fees, placement and document releasing charges in different stages to secure confirmed final selection.

The complainant fell prey to the trap and transferred more than Rs 60,000 via multiple transactions to various bank accounts specified by the caller.  The complainant was again asked to pay more money, on which he first demanded the appointment letter. However, he neither got a job, nor a refund of the amount as the caller became unreachable.

“A FIR under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. and we are investigating into the matter,” said senior police inspector Vaibhav Shingare.
