People choose lights and colour over noise: Traders
Mumbai: Crackers that emit different coloured lights and the ones that are environment-friendly as they cause less smoke are in more demand in festive season when compared to the noisy crackers, according to the wholesalers and retailers dealing with crackers.
Since the Mumbaikars are showing more fascination towards light-emitting crackers instead of those that create excessive noise, the traders have increased their stock of light-emitting crackers to match the demand.
Talking to The Asian Age, Azmi Fire Crackers at Mandavi near Minara Masjid, Shehzad Azmi said, “This year, colourful, light-emitting crackers are much more in demand as people are choosing them over the old classics like rockets.”
When asked about the state of business this year, the manager of Vishwa Fire Crackers at Bhuleshwar, Jitin Shah, said, “Demonetisation and GST have definitely slowed the business this year.”
The colourful crackers are known for producing beautiful lights in the sky and are very popular among the kids as well as adults. Despite being slightly expensive than other varieties of bombs, they are still selling briskly. Traders said that the light-emitting crackers are selling in between the price range of '500 and '5,000 per piece.
