Main accused in Kandivali murder case takes life
Mumbai: It has become difficult for the police to locate the cash and valuables looted from 65-year-old murder victim Devendra Doshi, after the main accused, Jayanti Savaliya (40), committed suicide. The police has arrested Savaliya’s aide, Nikunj Polara (24), in the Doshi case, but it was Savaliya who had been the brains of the operation.
Polara, who was arrested from Borivali (east) on Friday, claimed during his police interrogations that he had no clue where the booty was and that it was only Savaliya who knew its whereabouts, said a police source. According to the police, Polara confessed his involvement and Savaliya’s role in murdering and robbing Doshi. The latter, who knew Savaliya, had allegedly called him to arrange for gold coins in lieu of the old notes.
According to the police, after murdering Doshi at his residence in Kandivali (west), Savaliya went absconding. During his stay in a guesthouse in Talala area of Gujarat, he consumed poison and committed suicide.
According to sources, Polara, a resident of Rajkot, used to work with Savaliya while Doshi had known him for the last ten years.
