Addl CP asks dcp to probe Arpita Tiwari's death case

The police are probing the case and has registered a case of murder against unknown persons. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Mumbai: Anchor-compere Arpita Tiwari’s family is dissatisfied with the pace of the Malvani police’s probe into her death last week, as a result of which the additional commissioner of police (Addl. C.P.) is personally looking into the matter, confirmed police sources. The Addl. C.P. has asked the deputy commissioner of police (zone 11), who is supervising the case, to act swiftly.

Arpita’s sister Shweta asked the police to investigate the sexual assault angle but was told that the post-mortem results are awaited. Arpita’s family has demanded that the probe be handed over to the crime branch.

A senior police officer told this newspaper on condition of anonymity that the addl CP of police (north region), Rajesh Pradhan, is personally looking into the matter, and will take over the case in the event there is little progress.

One of Arpita’s female friends, who was part of the same social circle, recorded her statement for the second time, saying that Arpita had major problems with her boyfriend Pankaj Jadhav (30), days before the incident. The Malvani police is considering all facts and statements recorded since Arpita’s death on December 11 to ascertain what caused the tiff between the couple, as alleged by Pankaj’s friend, Amit Kumar (29), in his statement.

A source close to the investigation revealed that since there is no hard evidence to nail the accused in the case, the policeis gathering technical evidence to help arrest the guilty at the earliest. The police are probing the case and has registered a case of murder against unknown persons. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
