BMC mulling audit of civic schools

However, even after this, there is no impact so it is questionable.

Mumbai: The education department of the Brihanmumbai Mun-icipal Corporation (BMC) is considering conducting a school audit of each municipal school through the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET). NABET provides accreditation to schools, training course providers and auditors to bring in quality school governance.

Several councilors and members of the BMC education committee complained that despite allocating large funds for good quality education in civic schools, the dropout rate had only increased. Sainath Durge, Yuva Sena BMC education committee member said, “The number of students has drastically increased in the past year which is something the civic body should be concerned about. Every year, a big fat amount is being saved for all these things. However, even after this, there is no impact so it is questionable. Hence, NABET will only provide an insight into what is going wrong in helping these schools to improve their functioning.”

Through this audit, NABET will cover parameters such as the schools’ infrastructure, administration, teaching and training, safety and security etc. along with delivery of education programme.
