Students accuse FTII of leaking personal data to unrelated parties
Mumbai: Students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Tuesday accused the administration of leaking the students’ personal data to officials who were not concerned with the FTII.
According to the students, one IIS officer Thumma Vijay Kumar Reddy, DGP of the Information and Broadcast Ministry, called the local guardian of one Sriniwas Rao to get information about Rao’s parents. Rao was evicted from FTII administration from the hostel on February 15.
On Sunday, Reddy called Rao’s cousin who stays in Telangana, seeking information about Rao’s parents. He introduced himself as Vijaykumar Reddy, DGP, Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
The FTII students’ association Tuesday issued a statement saying that the contact number of the local guardian of Rao was only available with the FTII and how the official from the I&B ministry who was not associated with the FTII could get the contact number of Rao’s cousin. It was clear that the FTII had started personal attacks on students.
The statement further said that the said officer was IIS and was not posted with the IB ministry. When the FTII students called him later to know why he called, the said officer cut the call saying he was willing to talk.
Students are currently scared as the FTII is sharing personal information with others, and the families of students are being questioned.
Rao was suspended from the FTII in December last year for 52 days for allegedly having an argument with his faculty.
