Kaali-Peelis reap extra due to strike
Mumbai: The strike by the app-based cabs’ drivers was welcomed by the black-and-yellow taxi drivers, who on Monday pocketed up to 30 per cent more than their regular earnings as commuters had to rely on them to reach their destination.
“I think that the strike should continue like this because anyways these people are conducting business illegally. They don’t have the permissions to carry on business locally,” said AL Quadros, general secretary, Mumbai taximen’s union. He said, “Today, due the strike, we got good business and many of the taxi drivers earned upto 30 per cent more than their regular income. Also there was major relief in traffic since these cabs were off road.”
The traffic department said that there was no major change in the traffic flow. “Even though the private cabs weren’t functioning, there was no visible change in the traffic,” said Amitesh Kumar, joint CP, traffic.
