Now NT, OBC among others can get admission under RTE
Mumbai: The second phase of the admission process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which will begin from June 1, will have new format according to the state’s government resolution (GR) issued on Thursday. It will have strict verification process before giving admission.
As per the GR, students from Vimukta Jai (VJ) and Nomadic Tribes (NT), Other Backward Classes (OBC), HIV infected students and those with disabilities will have a separate section in the RTE admissions.
Under the 25 per cent quota of RTE admissions, children whose parents or guardians have an annual income of less than or equal to Rs 1 lakh will be given a preference. Hence, while filling the form, they need to submit income certificate as a proof. However, for the aforementioned special category students, no income certificate is required instead a doctor’s certificate and caste certificate (as per the student’s category) should be attached. If not, the application will not be entertained.
Officials of the education department in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) state that these certificates will go through strict verification before reaching the admission states. In the first phase of admission more than 150 applications were rejected as many of them allegedly submitted fake documents for address proof or income certificate. “There have been many instances were fake certificates have been submitted to us as out of desperation of getting admission, parents tend to do that. So we first verify thoroughly to avoid forgery in documents and maintain a clean procedure,” an official of the department said.
