Fireman injured while fighting Powai mall blaze
Mumbai: A fireman of the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) was badly injured during a firefighting operation Wednesday morning. A minor fire had broken out at Haiko Mall, Powai, where fireman Devendra Koradkar, sustained multiple spinal injuries and fractured the fingers of his left hand while firefighting. Mr Koradkar has been admitted to Hiranandani Hospital.
“Mr Koradkar has suffered a spine injury and went under the knife Wednesday,” informed chief fire officer P.S. Rahangdale. “No one else was injured or trapped in the fire and Mr Koradkar is undergoing the best available treatment for a speedy recovery,” he said.
A level-one fire broke out at Haiko Mall, Main Street, Central Avenue, near Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Monday at around 10.23 am. The fire brigade reached the spot at 10.46 am and the fire was completely doused at 11.05 am. Although the fire was minor, the building was smoke-logged. “The firemen had to enter the building by donning a set of fire aid line. During the ventilation process, fireman Devendra Koradkar suffocated, and was rushed to Hiranandani Hospital by jeep by the other firemen,” informed MFB.
