Heavy rains delay harbour line services for an hour

The Western Railway (WR) saw delay due to signal failure at Santacruz.

Mumbai: The central railway (CR) saw delays of 15 minutes due to water logging on the mainline tracks on Wednesday. Trains on Harbour Line were delayed for an hour after a train developed engine failure between Vashi and Mankhurd which led to an hour-long suspension of services.

Rains continued to delay train services where officials said that around 30 services were cancelled and 60 delayed after a train ground to a halt on harbour line while the mainline saw bouts of water logging. The WR on the other hand saw four services cancelled and 21 delayed after a signal failure at 1 pm due to which both fast and slow trains towards Churchgate were affected for more than half-an-hour.

CR general manager D.K. Sharma said, “We have been facing issues of water logging because of garbage that is dumped by passengers on the tracks. This added to the fact that there are many low-lying areas which makes it worse in terms of flooding on tracks.”
