Duo nabbed with 2 pistols, 20 live rounds

The seizure comes in the backdrop of murder of a local wine shop's owner who was robbed at gunpoint and killed in Goregaon last month.

Mumbai: Goregaon’s Vanrai police seized two firearms and 20 live rounds from two persons who had come to sell them from Uttar Pradesh. The officials said that the duo are gunrunners had come to deliver the firearms to petty criminals in Mumbai.

The seizure comes in the backdrop of murder of a local wine shop’s owner who was robbed at gunpoint and killed in Goregaon last month.

The officials said that they received information about the gun runners, later identified as Utkarsh Shrivastav, (22) a resident of Kanpur and Vijay Sahu, (29) who resides in Mira Road. The duo were apprehended ahead of their meeting with the source, officials said.

After receiving a tip off about the possible arms sale, a team laid a trap near the Ram Mandir railway station at around 9 pm. After they found two suspicious persons, the team frisked the duo upon which they were found in possession of the firearms.

“The firearms are pistols, which were found along with four magazines that were empty. They were separately carrying 20 live rounds. The weapons were brought from Uttar Pradesh. We are yet to identify who was to take the delivery,” said an officer of Vanrai police station. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
