Over 15,000 students get first choice of college in 2nd merit list

The admissions for the second merit list will be till July 21.

Mumbai: Over 70,000 students were allotted seats in the second general merit list for the first year junior college (FYJC) admissions that were declared on Thursday.

The total number of applications for the second list was over 1.4 lakh and 15,389 students successfully secured seats in their first preference college.

Out of the 70,036 students who were allotted a seat, 44,052 opted for commerce stream while 6,874 and 18,451 choose arts and science respectively. 686 students successfully secured seats for the minimum competency vocation course.

The second list which was supposed to be out by July 13 was pushed to Monday and then Thursday due to the rains and also because several minority colleges in the city did not surrender their vacant seats. Talking about the cut-offs, there was a slight drop in the cut-off percentage in the city colleges making it tough for the students who scored less than 70 per cent.

For instance, the cut-off percentage at St. Xavier’s for the Arts stream was 94.2 per cent in the first list which went down to 93.80 per cent. Similarly, for the Science stream the cut off in the first list was 90.4 per cent which later dropped to 88.16 per cent. In Mithibai College, cut-off percentage for arts dropped to 87.2 per cent from 89.6 percent. However, in many colleges, the percentage for the Science stream has a steep dip when compared to the other streams.

The admissions for the second merit list will be till July 21. The students who did not get seat in their first 10 preferred college can update their form as per the vacant seats and cut-off for the third general merit list. The third list will be declared on July 26.
