Mumbai: Following the lead of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) central and state leadership, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked party workers to help create a ‘Congress-mukt’ Mumbai.

The chief minister announced a ‘sankalp’ or resolution to win all 36 state Assembly seats in the city. “I am confident... Both the teams (BJP and Shiv Sena) are together now. We have to win this match 36-0. We will have to work at the booth level to win each seat in Mumbai,” he said.

Mr Fadnavis was speaking in programme, Navsankalp Samaroh, at its city office Vasant Smruti in Dadar on Friday, where BJP legislator Mangal Prabhat Lodha was formally elevated as the Mumbai BJP chief. Mr Lodha replaced Ashish Shelar, who had served as BJP city unit chief for six years and has been inducted into the Fadnavis Cabinet as school education minister.

Slamming the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party for “not doing anything with regard to dilapidated, cessed and noncessed buildings in the city during its 15-year-long regime”, the chief minister said that the previous government had neglected the redevelopment of buildings.

The government will come up with a policy to redevelop old buildings, he said. “In the next four to five years, ownership of houses will be given to the common man who resides in chawls, dilapidated, cessed and noncessed buildings,” Mr Fadnavis added.

He also said that the people of Mumbai supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2014 and 2019 general election. “The whole country is crazy for Modi ji. Decisions that had not been taken in 15 years for Mumbai were taken in the last five years, he claimed, citing the Mumbai Metro network, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and redevelopment of BDD Chawls and cessed buildings. “There is a list of 30 works that can be enumerated here. The previous government was unable to do these works, which remained on paper in the last 15 years,” the chief minister said.

Two days ago, newly appointed state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil had also stated that he would undertake ‘Mission: Congress-mukt Maharashtra’.
