State receives 22 rakes of coal, claims end to load-shedding
Mumbai: The Maharashtra government claimed that load-shedding in the state stopped on Friday.
The state has been facing severe coal shortage resulting in load-shedding of around four to eight hours in the Marat-hwada, Ichalakaranji and Mumbra regions for the last week. An energy department official said the state was witnessing acute shortage of seven rakes of coal for the last ten days. But the situation has improved from Dussehra onwards.
Speaking to The Asian Age, the principal secretary of the energy department, Arvind Singh, said that the supply of power has been restored across the state as the department has received 22 rakes of coal on Friday and is in constant touch with the coal company to increase the supply of coal.
“The state needs 25 rakes of coals to provide the electricity round the clock in an ideal condition. But at present, 22 rakes of coal are being supplied. We will have to stock coal for 22 days for emergency,” said an official.
