Watchman beats dog to death, FIR filed
Mumbai: Legendary poet Kavi Pradeep’s daughter Mitul Pradeep Tuesday filed a FIR with Juhu police station in an animal cruelty case. According to the complainant, a disabled canine, Langdu, that was beaten up mercilessly by a watchman of Shivam society earlier this month, succumbed to his injuries on November 13.
The dog’s front legs had been deformed since birth which is why people used to affectionately call him Langdu. He lived near Shivam society in Vile Parle west.
Ms Mitul said, “My friend had informed me about the incident so I rushed to the spot and got Langdu admitted in the Ahimsa animal hospital located at Malad.”
“Langdu succumbed to his injuries. The watchman has confessed on tape that he hit Langdu mercilessly with a stick on the instructions of the society residents,” she said.
Animal activists in the neighbourhood are planning to arrange a silent protest (candlelight vigil) for Langdu at 6 pm on Sunday at Shivam Society, Vile Parle (west).
Senior police inspector Pandharinath Wavhal of Juhu police station said, “An FIR has been filed on the complaint of Ms Mitul. So far, no arrest has been made in this case and the investigation is underway.”
