Prakash Javadekar takes a dig at Sharad Pawar over demonetisation
Mumbai: Union minister Prakash Javadekar took a dig at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar over his remarks on demonetisation. Hitting out at Mr Pawar over his note-ban remarks, Mr Javadekar said Y.B. Chavan’s disciples should at least understand his teachings, and that things would have been different today had Indira Gandhi listened to his advice on demonetisation.
If then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was in office and had listened to the advice of her Cabinet colleague Chavan, Mr Javadekar said, PM Narendra Modi would not have been compelled to take the note ban decision. He was speaking at a function at the Dombivili Gymkhana here on Sunday.
“Chavan was firm on demonetisation but no one in the government was ready to take his advice on it. His disciples should at least understand his teachings today,” he said, in a dig at Mr Pawar.
NCP supremo Pawar has slammed Mr Modi for dragging Indira Gandhi into the demonetisation debate by saying that the then PM virtually rejected Chavan’s proposal in that direction.
Mr Javadekar said black money and corruption had become cancerous to the society and to get out of its grip there was a need for a firm decision, which was taken by Mr Modi.
“For the past 70 years, people have been standing in queues for procuring rice and kerosene but now for some time they are required to stand in queues for the betterment of the nation,” he said, adding that most people have welcomed the note-ban decision.
