Taloja chemical unit catches fire, still being doused

Five water tankers and five fire engines were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.

Mumbai: A fire broke out in a chemical manufacturing unit at Taloja, MIDC, Navi Mumbai, at 1.10pm on Monday. With fire brigade personnel still trying to douse the fire, its cause could not be determined till Monday night. Five water tankers and five fire engines were pressed into service to extinguish the fire.

Till Monday night, no casualties were reported. The chemical manufacturing unit registered under Nimba Chemicals at Taloja caught fire at 1.10pm on Monday. The manufacturing unit located on plot number 17/26 specialised in manufacturing chemicals and supplying them on a large scale.

Taloja fire officials said, “The fire was reported to us at 1.15 pm and we sent five fire tenders and five water tankers to the spot immediately. The fire has spread to a large extent and it is 10 pm and we are still trying to douse it.”

Even as attempts are still underway to douse the fire, it has almost entirely gutted the manufacturing unit of Nimba Chemicals in Taloja.
