IT raid at NCP leader Baburao Chandere's house in Pune
Pune: The Income Tax department raided the house of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator and Ajit Pawar’s close aide Baburao Chandere on Tuesday.
A team of more than 50 members of Income Tax department visited the house of Baburao Chandere, a sitting corporator and former president of a standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) around 10.30 am.
They showed a few documents to Mr Chandere and later started searching his house at Virbhadra Nagar, Baner in Pune. The search was underway till 5 pm on Wednesday. According to sources, income tax department officials seized hard disc and a few documents from his house.
Chandere has been elected as a corporator in PMC for three times. He had also contested Assembly elections from Kothrud and lost.
A exuberant wedding ceremony of his son a few months ago in which crores of rupees were allegedly spent had grabbed eyeballs.
The sources said that the wedding ceremony is the reason behind the raid. The income tax department officials refused to talk on the matter.
