UP man fires at Sena functionary
Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a man Thursday morning opened fire on a 55-year-old Shiv Sena functionary and injured him. The incident took place at Vikhroli in suburban Mumbai.
Chandrashekhar Jadhav was sitting in the premises of Sai Mandir in Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli, when the accused, later identified as Abhay Vikram Singh (22), took out a firearm in his possession and fired four to five rounds at him at around 7.15 am.
While he was trying to flee from the spot, one of the bullets hit Mr Jadhav. However, Mr Jadhav’s son, who was also present at the spot, along with some others, caught hold of Singh and handed him over to the police after beating him up. Singh told the police that he was from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Jadhav suffered a bullet injury to one of his shoulders and was rushed to the Godrej Hospital located in Vikhroli.
According to sources, the bullet brushed passed his shoulder. Since Singh was also injured, the Vikhroli police rushed him to the government-run Rajawadi Hospital in suburban Ghatkopar.
The police will arrest him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Arms Act as soon as he is discharged from the hospital. The weapon used in the crime has been seized but the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
