MCA yet to pay Rs 13.42 cr to cops

The said amount (Rs 13.42 crore) was to be paid to the Mumbai police for the security provided during 17 matches in the city.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has not paid '13.42 crore dues for more than five years to the Mumbai police for providing security during cricket matches.

The Mumbai police, while replying to an RTI application, revealed the information. The said amount was to be paid for the 17 matches played in Mumbai which include three ICC T-20 World Cup match, Women's World Cup match, Test match, Practice match and One-Day match.

Vinayak Deshmukh, deputy commissioner of police (protection) said, “We are in touch with the MCA officials who will make the due payments shortly.” When contacted Unmesh Khanvilkar, joint secretary of MCA said, “The rates are fixed for the men’s matches, and not the women's matches.”

He added, “We have requested them to consider the pending payment for the men's matches and send a revised bill. We have also written to the state government saying that the payment will be made immediately when we get the revised bill.”

Activist Anil Galgali who had filed the RTI said, “It was obligatory for the MCA to make immediate payment to the police. They should also ensure that henceforth payment be collected in advance or at paid least immediately on completion of the match.”
