Six dupe kalyan investor of Rs 46.55 crore

The police is yet to arrest the accused and is inquiring with the people who work with the accused.

Mumbai: Kalyan’s Khadakpada police has registered a case of cheating against six persons who allegedly duped a Kalyan-based investor of Rs 46.55 crore. The accused allegedly tried to lure the complainant into investing in a project of the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and then refused to provide returns on the investment following which, they threatened to kill him.

According to Khad-akpada police, the complainant, Sanjay Vyas (42), a land developer, was allegedly looted by six persons who threatened to kill him if he informed the police. The police is yet to arrest the accused and is inquiring with the people who work with the accused.

A police officer said, “The victim is a resident of Goregaon and had invested money in several land developing sites. He met the accused in 2015 at one of his relative’s functions. The main accused, Anil Shah, who has a business in Kalyan. During the past two to three years, Shah persuaded Mr Vyas to invest in his project, which he said was a KDMC project.

Later however, when Mr Vyas did not get any returns on the money he had invested, he started investigating only to find out that Shah, his wife and four other partners allegedly created a fake firm and looted him.”

A police officer said, “The accused showed fake documents signed by KDMC officials to the complainant. After the complainant got wind of the fraud, he asked for his money to be returned.”
