Opposition’s no trust motion not tabled in house

Mumbai: Two weeks after the opposition Congress-NCP members moved a no-confidence motion against speaker of the assembly, Haribhau Bagde, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the decision would be taken at an appropriate time. It is mandatory to bring the motion for discussion in 14 days, which lapsed on Monday. 

“We will discuss the issue and bring the topic in the lower house,” Mr Fadnavis told the assembly. The issue was raised by leader of the opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who wanted to know why the no-confidence motion had not been listed in the order of the day since the 14-day period had ended on Monday.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former speaker Dilip Walse-Patil said the notice for the no-confidence motion was given on March 5 and the 14-day period had lapsed. “The issue should be been listed today in the order of the day and taken up. The motion has been signed by 29 members of the house.”
