Rail roko stir rocks

Mr Fadnavis informed the Assembly that the railway administration had initiated talks with the youths.

Mumbai: The rail roko issue rocked the Assembly on Tuesday morning. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had to make a statement after the Opp-osition raised questions as to why the police resorted to lathi-charge against the agitators.

Mr Fadnavis informed the Assembly that the railway administration had initiated talks with the youths.

Mr Fadnavis told the House that Railways had increased the reservation for apprentices from 10 per cent to 20 per cent. The youths are demanding 100 per cent reservation for apprentices in railway jobs. “The Railway administration has initiated talks with the protesters and a solution would be arrived at. The police resorted to lathi-charge because some protesters hurled stones, but the situation is under control,” the CM said.”

Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said “Commuters had to face hardships because of the disruption in rail services but we should consider the hardships of the youth. The railway administration was not forthcoming to talk and understand their demands.”
