Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) new policy to tackle the massive problem of parking space in the megapolis has come under fire from residents. The BMC has introduced a pay and park policy for parking cars outside ones’ society, in a bid to target those who avail parking space on public roads.

The A ward Action Group For Pay and Parking, an amalgamation of various resident groups, non-government organisations and ALMs, met BMC chief Ajoy Mehta on Thursday and voiced their grievances about the proposed pay and park policy, which has been implemented in A ward on a pilot basis.

“One of the major discrepancies in the parking policy is that no parking would be allowed within 500 metres of parking lots. This would mean that there would be no parking in areas like Colaba and Nariman Point,” said Naresh Kapoor, a South Mumbai resident.
