Record takers for BMS this year
Mumbai: With the first merit list having been declared, candidates who have made it to this list must secure admissions before Friday in their respective colleges. Among the students who have applied for admissions to degree colleges affiliated to the Mumbai University for 2018-19, most have opted for Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) and Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) in self-financing courses.
Over 1.47 lakh students have opted for BMS while 56,591 students have chosen BMM this year. Like every year, Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) has the highest number of candidates with over 2.49 lakh students; followed by B.Com (accounting and finance) and B.Com (financial market) with 80,788 and 16,635; respectively. Bachelor of Arts (BA), too, has 55,662 candidates this year. With 71,330 students having opted for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc); 68,448 for B.Sc (IT) and 34,279 for B.Sc (computer science), this remains the top preference for students interested in the science stream. Courses like B.Sc (aviation) and B.Sc (home science) have the least number of candidates compared to the rest of the courses.
This year, about 2.75 lakh candidates applied for admissions, with over 8.6 applications being filed. The cut-off percentage, too, has increased as a large number of students has scored 85 per cent and above. The students, who could not make it to the first merit list, can check for the second merit list that will be put up on June 22. The third merit list will be out on June 27.
