Files destroyed as fire breaks out at Bank of India's branch
Mumbai: A major fire broke out at Bank of India’s (BOI’s) Churchgate branch Wednesday night in which many files and computer systems inside the bank got damaged. The bank is located in the Eros theatre building, Jamshedji Tata Road, Churchgate. Although, the Mumbai Fire Brigade is yet to complete the inspection report about the loss of material inside the bank, the bank will remain shut until the investigation is completed and it is subsequently given the green signal to start repair works.
The cause of the fire is being investigated but prima facie the fire seems to have erupted due to a short circuit. Luckily, no one was inside the bank as it was shut at night and consequently, no injuries were reported. Many bank employees learned about the fire and the bank being closed only after they reached their office Thursday morning.
The fire broke out at 11.40 pm Wednesday and the fire brigade declared it a level 2 i.e. a major fire call. Ten fire engines were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused by around 1.30 am. “The false ceiling inside the bank came down during the fire which damaged the computer systems and many files and papers, too, got burned in the fire. The computers and papers were damaged also due to the water sprays used to douse the fire. The wirings, furniture and other items suffered damage. The exact loss is being inspected and the bank will be shut till such time,” said a senior fire officer.
