Farmers to decide next step for complete waiver on July 23

The government has been facing opposition from farmers after it laid down various eligibility criteria for loan waiver.

Mumbai: Farmers sparked a protest rally on Thursday in Beed demanding unconditional loan waiver as against the “unsatisfactory” waiver announced by the state government. The agitation was initiated from Vidarbha and Marathwada and was furthered to Beed. Farmers’ leaders namely Raghunath Patil, Bachhu Kadu, Ajit Navale attended the rally to express their solidarity. The protest would end on July 23 in Pune, where further line of action would be declared.

Through the protest, participating farmers raised various concerns with regards to the loan waiver. “We have been meeting farmers from various regions and no one is happy with the conditional loan waiver. The farmers are not going to benefit from it. Also, there is no restructuring of loans. All have expressed their dissent for the conditional loan waiver and hence we are pushing for a complete loan waiver. Our further line of action will be declared on July 23,” said Ajit Navale.
