Mother, lover booked for sexually abusing daughter

The police have arrested the accused tailor and named the woman as an accomplice.

MUMBAI: The Meghwadi police has booked a mother and her live-in partner for allegedly sexually abusing woman’s teenage daughter in February. The live-in partner, a tailor by profession, had allegedly sexually abused the victim and when she complained to the mother, the women thrashed her instead of confronting him, according to the police.

The police have arrested the accused tailor and named the woman as an accomplice.

According to police, the victim’s parents have been separated for five years, and she lived with her father after the separation. The victim’s mother was living at the SRPF camp in Jogeshwari east and was in a live-in relationship with a local tailor, the main accused in the case.

In February, when the teenager was visiting her mother, the tailor, who has been identified as S. Gavas, was also present there. When the victim's mother went off to work, Gavas allegedly locked up the teenager in a room and sexually abused her by touching her inappropriately.

“Acting on the complaint, we sent a team to arrest the tailor and booked him under relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. We have named the victim’s mother as an accomplice because after learning about the incident, she tried to shield her live-in partner and never reported the incident,” said SI, Jagdeo Kalapad from Meghwadi police station.
