Railway helpline helps cops rescue five-month-old

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the woman was taking the baby to Rennigunta in Andhra Pradesh by the Chennai Express train.

Mumbai: The railway police’s helpline came to the rescue of a five-month-old baby girl from Pune on Saturday, hours after she was kidnapped by her own aunt. Railway police rescued the baby after her father lodged a complaint with the local cops in Pune and informed them that the accused was taking the baby to Andhra Pradesh by train. The police shared the information with the railway police helpline, as a result of which the woman was apprehended at Solapur station, just hours after the kidnapping.

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the woman was taking the baby to Rennigunta in Andhra Pradesh by the Chennai Express train.

“The joint team of the GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were looking for her and they spotted her in the general compartment at Solapur at around 1am on Saturday and upon due verification, took her into custody,” said a GRP officer.
