The continuous leakages are bound to weaken the tunnel and damage the overhead wires.
Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) has started urgent repairs on the 1.2 kilometre-long Parsik tunnel between Thane and Diva on the fast corridor, due to continuous leakages inside the tunnel.
The continuous leakages are bound to weaken the tunnel and damage the overhead wires.
A senior CR official said that, the repair works of the Parsik tunnel would be completed in next 15 days.
The block for the repair works is being held during night hence the train operation including the suburban services would not be affected.
The leakage of water inside the tunnel was posing a huge problem for the railway hence the CR had roped in Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, Rourkela to give an opinion over filling the cracks with the special solvent that could stop the leakage.
The Thane-Diva corridor being one of the busiest one, CR will have to undertake the repair works only after the last train passes the tunnel during night.
