Navi Mumbai cops arrest armed robber on Saturday
Mumbai: A team of Navi Mumbai crime branch on Saturday nabbed a robber who was wanted in as many as 90 cases and had escaped from Virar a few days ago. The accused, Faiyaz Shaikh, always carried a pistol to use it against the police whenever they got close to apprehend him.
“Shaikh is wanted in 90 cases by the Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Navi Mumbai and Vapi police in Gujarat. Our team was saved as they were wearing bullet-proof vests,” said Tushar Doshi, deputy commissioner of police, Navi Mumbai crime branch.
A special team of officers from Taloja and Kharghar police stations was formed to nab the accused. The officers who sustained injuries in crossfiring were identified as Pratap Kadam, Nilesh Mane, Nitin Shinde and Anil Suravase.
Shaikh had executed a carjacking in Kharghar on Friday night and fled with a WagonR by holding the owner at gunpoint. When the police tried to intercept him, he fired at them and fled.
