Dehydrated jackal rescued from school compound
Mumbai: A severely dehydrated jackal from Tata Nagar near Bhandupeswar Kund at Bhandup (east) was rescued on Thursday morning. The jackal was found in weak condition near Vidyadhiraja high school. The jackal is currently admitted in the Thane SPCA animal hospital.
Non-governmental organis-ation (NGO) Plant and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS), Mumbai received a call at around 11.30 am from the staff of the nearby school informing about the jackal lying in the school compound.
“The jackal had entered the school compound area and seemed that someone had tied it. We reached at the spot at 12 pm and rescued the jackal,” said Sunish Subramanian, secretary of PAWS Mumbai.
The NGO further stated that the jackal had also attacked a stray puppy and a child. However, the child was taken to the municipal hospital for treatment.
“When we found the jackal, it was severely dehydrated. We gave it liquid in to orde to stabilise the animal. It might have come from the mangrove area in Bhandup near the pumping station,” Mr Subramanian added. Jackal is being stabilised at the Thane SPCA Animal Hospital, after which it will be released into the mangrove area.
Earlier in October this year, another jackal was rescued from the Andheri Lokhandwala Complex.
