State plans yellow revolution' with SHGs to address egg demands

The pilot project will be launched in Palghar and Dhule districts.

Mumbai: On the lines of green revolution, the state government is planning to start a ‘yellow revolution,’ which will provide desi eggs at reasonable cost, with the help of women’s self help groups (SHGs) in the state.

For this, the rural development department has decided to sign a memora-ndum of understanding with private super markets, which will buy eggs from rural women at the cost of rupees eight each and sell it in the open market at higher price.

The pilot project will be launched in Palghar and Dhule districts. The project will be launched formally on January 23, in a function where governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao will inaugurate the annual Mahalaxmi Saras Exhibition, to be held till February 4 at the MMRDA ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex.

Pankaja Munde, minister for rural development, said, “Like there was a green revolution, we have planned a yellow revolution. There is a big demand for eggs coming from villages. The state has decided to set up eggs collection centre in every village to buy eggs. The sale of eggs is not channelised yet. We are trying to set up a system wherein the SHGs, whom we have given loan for eggs business, will be provided markets to sell eggs.”

“It will ensured that rural women will get fair price for the desi eggs at the collection centres,” she added.
