Elephanta Island set to receive uninterrupted electricity
Mumbai: Maharashtra government has completed the electrification work of Elephanta Island also known as Gharapuri which is 11 Kilometers away from Gateway of India. The inauguration ceremony of the electrification of the island will be held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on February 22. Gharapuri Island, a UNESCO recognized World Heritage Site, is an important tourist destination of the country. It comes under the jurisdiction of Tourism Development Corporati-on, and earlier the electricity was supplied through the diesel generator on the island. However, with assistance from MMRDA 95 Sq m, 7.5 km long 22 KV electric cable was laid down.
