Mumbai: A senior citizen, Rishita Shah (68) was made to run pillar to post at VP road police station on Saturday, when she had gone to submit a letter of intimation that was downloaded from the Mumbai police's website. Shah's son, Ajit posted the incident on A social networking website. The Deputy Commissioner of Police is personally looking into the matter.

According to sources, Rishita Shah, who is a resident of Girgaum in South Mumbai, wanted to submit a letter of intimation at the police station about her house that she had given on rent, and providing details about the tenants. However, the police made her run pillar to post to get the letter accepted, and did not  accept the letter claiming that the letter format was not authentic.

Expressing the rage over the incident, Rishita’s son, Ajit tweeted the incident saying, “This is absurd. Shouldn’t there be a dedicated desk for senior citizens. Can’t they be courteous enough to accept a simple intimation and acknowledge it?”

Mr Shah further added, “The intimation, however, was downloaded from the Mumbai police’s website, which the cops claimed to be incorrect. They troubled my mother and sent from desk to desk.”

When contacted the senior police inspector of VP Road police station, Sanjay Kamble, he said they will look into the matter, and the Deputy Commissioner of police (Zone 2) will personally take notice.

A police source from VP Road police station said on the condition of anonymity, “There was chaos in the documentation department on Saturday, and that’s why the senior citizen might have felt that way. We do not treat citizens like that, and it is a misunderstanding clearly.”
