IMD: monsoon will intensify in few days

Mumbai: Mumbai received intermittent rains on Saturday with more rainfall in the eastern suburbs, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD stated that the intensity of rains would further increase by next week. During the last 24 hours, since 8.30 am on Friday, the Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded only 6.2mm and 18.1mm of rainfall, respectively.

“Currently, there is a weak offshore trough along the western coast which has reduced the intensity of rainfall. It is expected to increase by next week,” said an IMD official. The weather report by the IMD stated that, a few spells of rains is likely to occur in the city and suburbs in the next 48 hours.

“The feeble offshore trough at mean sea level from south Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast now runs from south Gujarat coast to north Kerala coast. “Southwest monsoon strong to vigorous over west central Arabian sea, moderate to strong over east central and southeast Arabian sea and moderate over northeast Arabian sea,” read the IMD report.
