Vital stretch at Malad: an uneven nightmare
Mumbai: A pothole-ridden stretch at Sunder Nagar, Malad has become a nightmare for motorists and residents of the locality as the condition of the road is worsening by the day. The stretch is an important route as it connects to educational institutions like Dr Sarvepalli Radha-krishnan Vidyalaya and D.G. Khetan International School. The road is filled with craters and precariously laid paver blocks.
“We are forced to use this stretch as it is the easiest route to reach Chincholi. This road is always in a bad condition and nobody cares to repair it properly. It’s only prior to monsoon that the BMC comes to fill the big potholes. However, the fillings wear off in the first rainfall itself,” said Anish Chauhan, a rickshaw driver who has been living in the area for 12 years.
Along with motorists and rickshaws, the route is regularly used by school buses. “Several times people do fall after losing control on this stretch, as the whole patch is uneven and difficult to ride,” said Kamal Sran, a motorist.
Responding to the complaints, a BMC official from P/North ward said, “The repair of this stretch is with the civic central agency of repairs and the concerned department is completing work on one side of the stretch. This too will be repaired soon.”
