Mumbai: A Nagpur-based man was arrested late on Tuesday for allegedly insulting Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of Parliament Supriya Sule.

According to a police officer from Vartak Nagar police station, Mr Awhad lodged a complaint against the person Walchand Geete. In his statement, Mr Awhad mentioned that on November 19, Ms Sule was re-tweeted: “My tribute to the Iron Lady of the nation, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary”. On this tweet, Geete commented from his @GitteWalchand account that, “Good night babes, is it true that you are called as — in professional language?, love you babes and Emoji of kiss”.

Vartak Nagar police station senior police inspector P.C. Giridhar said, “We have got the person’s IP address and soon we will arrest him,” he said.

Mr Awhad said Ms Sule is a political figure and many people read her tweets daily. “She is a public personality. All of us are hurt because of such comments. We will not tolerate such people. It’s not just about Ms Sule but nobody can talk like this about any woman,”
he said.
