Offshore SCI vessel sinks off Mumbai coastline, all passengers rescued

The vessel was on a charter hiring, working for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

Mumbai: An offshore vessel of the c (SCI) sunk off the Mumbai coast on Tuesday evening. There were at least 16 persons onboard the vessel SCI Ratna who were rescued after the SCI pressed another vessel, GS Prachi, into the rescue operation.

The vessel was on a charter hiring, working for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The vessel started flooding after a hole was reported due to an alleged pipe burst in the engine room around 5.15 pm. After some time due to uncontrolled rise in water level, the offshore vessel began sinking and crewmembers jumped into the sea, officials said. An alert was issued pertaining to the incident, following which the rescue operation began. The 2,039-tonne vessel sunk around 110 miles off the city coast around 6 pm and all the crewmembers were rescued safely, sources said.

An inquiry is likely to be conducted in the incident by the SCI.
