Prince still critical, probe underway

Dr Deshmukh said that Prince is critical and that they have counseled his father in the afternoon.

Mumbai: Two-month-old Prince continues to be critical at civic-run KEM Hospital even as the civic administration’s investigation into alleged negligence is underway.

Dr Hemant Deshmukh, dean, KEM Hospital, said, “Prince’s blood pressure is being maintained with the help of three cardiac drugs. Prince requires high ventilator settings to maintain oxygen saturation up to 95 per cent. His breathing is not good. He is bleeding from the endotracheal tube. His urine output is okay.”

Dr Deshmukh said that Prince is critical and that they have counseled his father in the afternoon.

Prince's father Pannelal said, “What can we say? My baby is serious but we are still nursing hope. However, he is very unstable and requires maximum life support is what we have heard from the
doctors.”

Meanwhile, Dr Ramesh Bharmal, director of major civic hospitals, during the inquiry, also recorded the statement of BMC chief engineer (mechanical and electrical) responsible for the maintenance of the paediatric ICU (PICU). Asked about the slow pace of inquiry, Dr Bharmal said that he had taken both the oral and written statements of people who witnessed the incident.

“Besides jotting down the series of events in the morning of November 7, we are also collating all the details on the maintenance of the monitor, cables and other equipment in the ward,” he said.
