Contractor, 3 held for misuse of toilet for differently-abled
Mumbai: The Thane Government Railway Police (GRP) and Kopri police on Monday registered an offence against a toilet contractor and three others for alleged misuse of a public toilet meant for the differently-abled at the Thane railway station. It is alleged the accused allowed non-differently-abled people to use the toilet. The Kopri police arrested the accused under The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
According to a complaint filed by a person from an NGO, Prahar Apang Railway Pravasi Sanghatana, the contractor was allowing everyone to use the toilet when the it specifically built for people with disabilities, a police officer said. The facility was being misused, thus causing problems for people with disabilities who were finding it difficult to use the toilet meant for them, said the complaint.
Senior police inspector S.D. Korde of the Kopri police station said, “Based on the complaint, the Kopri police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act against the contractor and three others.”
