Peter Mukerjea seeks interim bail for med treatment
Mumbai: Peter Mukerjea on Friday filed an application seeking interim bail for medical treatments.
Although Mukerjea is already in the privately-run Asian Heart Institute in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) for medical treatment, one of the grounds seeking bail is the inordinate delay in taking the accused to J.J. Hospital because of the inherent failure of government machinery in admitting the accused to hospital.
“Considering the nature of the disease, it is impossible for the accused (Peter) to obtain timely medical treatment in time to save his life,” read the application. It is mentioned in the application filed by advocate Amit Ghag that Mukerjea had been suffering from chest pain since the last few days and had informed jail authorities about the same but he was taken to J.J. Hospital only on March 16.
The doctors there observed that Mukerjea had suffered a heart attack so they admitted him immediately to the intensive critical care unit. On March 18, Mukerjea was asked to give consent for angiography. Though he wanted to take a second opinion, he was told that if he did not give his consent, they would discharge him and send him back to jail.
