Mumbai: After repeatedly crashing over the weekend, the online portal for first year junior college (FYJC) admissions that was shut down for maintenance on Wednesday, began operating smoothly on Thursday, according to the education department. The total number of students who registered are yet to be specified by the education department. Since crashing of the portal, students faced issues with it for the fourth day counting. State education minister Vinod Tawde on Tuesday said that the site would be shut and problems resolved by Thursday morning.

Education department officials blamed the glitch on server issues and low bandwidth. They also said that the IT vendor had been directed to increase server capacity and bandwidth as soon as possible. The process of FYJC online admissions is being handled by IT firm, NYSA Technical. Deputy director B.B. Chavan told The Asian Age, “We have given contracts to this agency that was allocated through the government. We have no clue why the portal could not handle traffic. But now things are back to normal and students have started filling their forms. The portal is working smoothly.”

Meanwhile, NYSA claimed that it was a virus attack that led to problems in the FYJC admission portal on Monday. The type of virus or details of damage are not known however it is being claimed that the problem was resolved by Tuesday evening. NYSA officials also said that the form filling process had resumed and was going on smoothly. Students across Mumbai continued to complain about slow login times and failure to submit forms despite several attempts due to the website hanging intermittently and later crashing.
