Mumbai: The state authority has failed to set up an alarm system and increase the number of security guards at state-run J.J. Hospital. A trial of the alarm system will be conducted on Monday after which it will be installed, said Dr Amol Hekare, spokesperson of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD).

Dr Hekare told The Asian Age, “Despite repeated requests, there was no adequate security and alarm system in the hospital. We had talks about this with our dean and the education minister. The minister and senior authorities have now assured us that on Monday, they will run a trial of the alarm system after which it will be installed at various identified spots of hospitals.”

Senior authorities and the dean took rounds and identified spots where alarms could be placed. State medical education minister Girish Mahajan said, “Regarding the alarm, it was one of their main demands. We have assured them that the alarm will be in place soon. I have had a satisfactory meeting and we have agreed to provide them with adequate security. I have asked the department to conduct the security review. And the guards will be placed.”
