Silent protest held to back RJ

The controversy erupted after the BMC sent notice to RJ Malishka over potential mosquito breeding spot at her home in Bandra.

Mumbai: Activists held a silent march on Andheri-Kurla road on Saturday to support RJ Malishka after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sent her a notice on Wednesday for allegedly not tackling a mosquito-breeding spot at her Bandra home. The protesters wore masks of RJ Malishka and raised slogans in her support. They even filled a big pothole on the road as a part of the protest.

The BMC’s move of sending notice to RJ Malishka irked the activists who came out to support her on Saturday. Around 50 people were gathered for the silent protest, which was led by Watchdog Foundation, a civic NGO. Along with wearing the masks, the group also played the parody song of RJ Malishka on a loudspeaker, in a bid to support the radio jockey. “The civic body had particularly targeted the RJ because she dared to raise her voice against the shoddy job done by the corporation. This protest is held to show them that Malishka is not alone, all Mumbaikars are with her,” said Godfrey Pimenta, trustee of the foundation.

Meanwhile, the activists also filled a big pothole as part of the protest and distributed 100 ointments to the motorists on the road, mocking the inability of the civic body to deliver a pothole-free road. “There is four-level procedure carried out while repairing a pothole, which I don’t think any of the civic officers are following,” added Mr Pimenta.

The controversy erupted after the BMC sent notice to RJ Malishka over potential mosquito breeding spot at her home in Bandra. The notice was sent to RJ Malishka’s mother Lily Mendonsa on Wednesday just days after the radio jockey’s parody video, highlighting the monsoon woes in the city, went viral.
